Spent the morning with James, Peyton, Gonzo, Colin, Dever and Naon. Before we left the dock, Peyton made it clear that they wanted striped bass! So....bass we caught! First stop...30+ pound fish hits the deck. Then two more to follow. Not wanting to take more than they planned to eat, we left the bass chewing with three in the box. Spent the rest of the morning playing catch-and-release with the porgies....maybe we kept 2 or 3! A great trip with these NR first timers. Hope they enjoy dinner!

Had the pleasure of fishing with Kevin Braun and the boys again today. Decided to make a pass with the chutes, which paid off immediately with two nice bass. Not much after that, but we'll take the two! Then we switched over to do some bottom fishing and loaded the boat with scup. And then tried for the fluke and put a few nice flatties in the box as well. Great day as always with this crew. Looking forward to seeing them again this fall!

Spent the afternoon on the water with Harwood Birthday group. Was hoping to put the boys on some striped bass, but that's been a challenge these last couple of weeks. They're out there, but you've got to put your time in. We decided to make a few passes for fluke -- good action but lots of shorts. Then switched over for the scup and, not surprisingly, had the rods bent immediately. A beautiful afternoon on the water with great guys. Hope they enjoy dinner!

We had the pleasure of seeing Kevin Braun and the boys for their annual trip on the NOVEMBER RAIN today. The bass bite continued to be pretty much non-existent, though we did manage to find one lone striped bass swimming in a world of bluefish. Bottom fishing, however, was great, with a limit of sea bass and a few scup. A little lumpy today, but well worth making the trip. Tons of laughs with the guys, as usual. Looking forward to seeing them next year!

We had the pleasure of again sailing with Steve Armstrong and his daughters Melanie and Emily this weekend. Like many others, we left the dock in pea soup fog on Saturday morning. Making the ride out of the inlet and down the beach even more interesting were all of the boats fishing the SIYC tourney, none of whom, unfortunately, had the shot gun blast off they were likely hoping for, given that you couldn't see 100 yards out. It was a crowded ocean, at least until the offshore boats steamed past the lighthouse.

We fished around the Elbow throughout the morning, struggling a little with the bass. It took us a little longer than I would have preferred, but after a solid effort, we managed to get some fish in the box. We had a few shorts mixed in and even the keepers weren't slobs, but the group still had a catch to go home with. After we picked up our striped bass, we ran to the south side for some sea bass. We made a few drifts and were fortunate to scoop up some additional fish for the box. By the end of the trip, the fog had finally started to burn off and we had an easy ride back to the dock.

We've fished with Steve, Melanie and Emily in the past and I won't say this was our best trip with them. Last year, we had a few cows in the cockpit pretty quickly. This year, it took a little time...and they weren't cows! However, Steve and his daughters are a great group and (Capt) Steve and I had a ball fishing with them. LOTS OF LAUGHS. We look forward to getting out again with them next summer. Please take a look at our gallery for some pics from this trip.
