We had the pleasure of fishing with Qasim and family this past Saturday. Qasim, a first-timer to Montauk, was out for the day with his brother and father. We left the dock at around 7:00 am just in time for slack! We put the umbrellas in and had action pretty quickly with both bass and bluefish. Some nice bass, but also a lot of shorts mixed in. It became a little sloppy around the Elbow as the Ebb got going and fishing became a bit more of a challenge. We put the chutes in a little later in the trip and had some luck with them as well. The guys ended up keeping three bass and a handful of bluefish, with a number of others thrown back.

The NOVEMBER RAIN sailed with Brian Connors and his buddies this morning. Despite the less than perfect conditions, the guys were vikings and fished hard the entire trip. Lots of short bass out there and, of course, the usual bluefish invasion, but it was a good morning. We started at the Pollack and had instant action with the bass. Unfortunately, many of them were just shy of 28 inches and were released to live another day. We then moved further east and fished around the Hump. We pulled wire. and although we tried the parachutes, the umbrella rigs were definitely more productive. The guys called the trip just as the skies opened and the rain began to fall in the late morning. We didn’t hit our limit of keepers, but still sent the guys home with some nice looking fish in the 25 lb class.

I’m not a seafood eater (I actually hate it!), but I begged the guys not to fry up their dinner, which was their initial plan. Hopefully they threw the fillets on the grill and enjoyed a good meal!

Didn’t fish the NOVEMBER RAIN on Sunday, but enjoyed the afternoon back west on our 21’ Kencraft. Looking forward to getting out again later this week!

We fished another two-boat trip this afternoon. Sailing at 1:00, we caught the rest of the ebb. We had instant action on the umbrella rigs. Tons of bass, although there were a lot of shorts to fish through. The group only wanted a few fish for their dinner, an easy task this afternoon. Between both boats, they had more than enough for the entire weekend's meals.

We still have some availability this month. If you'd like to fish aboard the NOVEMBER RAIN, you know where to find me!

We made a crew trip today and steamed offshore in search of another mako or a thresher. We ran about 20 miles SE of the point. The SW wind blew in some less-than-ideal water conditions, aka green water. Temp was about 69 degrees. We had tons of life, but no makos (or threshers) this time around. No complaints here, though. A day on the water beats anything else in my book!
