We sailed with Michael Madarash and crew for a ¾ day trip today celebrating Michael’s bachelor party. We decided to head out with eels and started at the Elbow and then quickly over to the Slot. While the bass were there, the bluefish were as obnoxious as ever…especially since we weren’t planning on keeping any! I got word that the parachutes were having more luck on the bass front. However, the guys wanted only a few bass for that night’s dinner and really wanted to try for some sea bass as well. Therefore, rather than switching over to the wire, we changed our tactics completely and decided to go bottom fishing, where we had instant action. There were plenty of shorts mixed in, but it didn’t take more than a few minutes to start putting some fish in the box. We even tossed back a few that just made the limit with an eye on keeping only those larger fish. Once the tide turned around and the ebb got going, we talked about doing a little more striped bass fishing, but the guys wanted none of it. So, we anchored up and spent a little more time with the sea bass. By around 12:30, the group called it quits and we headed back in, with more than enough dinner for the four of them. Overall, another great trip! Looking forward to seeing them again next year. Best of luck to Michael with his December wedding!

We fished with Scott & company again today. We started in search of bass and bluefish again and had a few in the morning hours. At slack, we ran over to Fishers Island and spent the rest of the day togging. Despite the new regs, we landed a number of nice blackfish, as well as a few sea bass. No monsters, but big enough for the box! We wrapped up the trip just as the rain started!

This afternoon, we headed out with Scott Little and crew – Kenny, Kenny and John. We left the dock at noon for a ¾ day trip. We had wind against tide for half the trip and while we managed to pull a few fish from the Elbow and the Slot, we spent the early evening fishing the wire under the light, where the water was a bit calmer. The guys were looking for both bass and bluefish and went home with just that.

This morning we sailed with Josh, Jennifer & Lauren. We left the dock at 6:00 am and headed straight to the Elbow. As anyone fishing Montauk these last few days will admit, bass fishing was not what one might expect for October. However, the group worked hard and landed a few nice fish before calling it quits.

Today we sailed with Michelle Stinga and her family, along with her boyfriend Mike Paci, who also fished with us last weekend. We left the dock just after 6:00 am and headed to the Elbow to fish the bait. We had immediate action, but, unfortunately, that didn’t last. The fish were definitely there but you had to work for them. We had some nice fish early on but then moved a little further east to where it was less crowded. Found good action at the Slot and the Hump but, for us, the larger fish were around the Elbow. At slack, we decided to go bottom fishing and ended up with a nice catch of sea bass and porgies. Once the tide started moving again, we came back inshore to the Elbow. Again, we were into the fish almost immediately. However, just as quickly as we found the fish, did some of the group start to get sick. We made a few drifts before getting the word to head back in. Michelle and crew have been fishing with us for years and we’ve been fortunate to almost always have ideal weather, with the exception of last year’s hurricane and I suppose this Saturday afternoon! We’ll hope for better conditions next year!
