Today we attempted a morning trip with Tom, Mike, Sharon and 7-yr old Sophie and 4-yr old Nicholas. We started with a little bottom fishing near outer Shagwong and had some porgies and sea bass, which kept the kids busy. It was pretty sloppy and although we weren’t able to drift bait as we had hoped for the second half of the trip, we dropped the parachutes in around the North Rip for a couple of passes. Unfortunately, it was only about 15 minutes before the group decided to end the trip. Just a little too nasty for the kiddies. Hoping we’ll get them out again before the season is over!

This morning, the NOVEMBER RAIN had the pleasure of fishing with Henry, Casey and Mike. This was their first time fishing with us and they were eager to head out for some bass. We grabbed a few pounds of eels before leaving the dock and although we ended up feeding many of them to the bluefish, we did manage to land a few bass as well. Not the slobs one might hope for, but certainly more than enough meat to help feed their summer house, which had 30+ guests this weekend!

During this afternoon, we sailed with Alex Hecker and his family, including his 5-yr old daughter and 3-yr old son (who, admittedly, napped for much of the afternoon!). While the ocean was a little calmer once the tide turned, fishing proved to be more challenging, as the bluefish were just relentless. However, aside from boxing just a few blues, they too went home with plenty of bass fillets for dinner. Again, no slobs (biggest fish was low 30s), but more than enough for the group.

At around 12:30 this afternoon, we headed out for the ebb with Paul Chung & crew. This is the second trip for these guys and although we landed a few fish, it proved to be much more of a challenge this go around. Aside from five hours of consistent rain, we had to fight through an abundance of bluefish, as I think most boats did. Fortunately, we were able to put a few fish in the box and sent the guys home with dinner.

This morning we had the pleasure of fishing with my father and his girlfriend Debbie, along with their friends. The weather was on-and-off with rain and a little wind but the bite was on and we had a productive morning with the eels. Each couple only wanted one fish so we boxed three bass and released another 6 or 7, along with a handful of bluefish. By 10:00, they were done and ready to head back in with their catch. Minus the rain, an ideal day!
