We had been planning to fish today, but agreed that it would make sense to reschedule given the weather. Although I absolutely love fishing in the rain (don't ask why!), we were expecting a group of kids this morning and I doubted they'd feel the same way. We'll get that group out in another couple of weeks! We're still booking trips for the Fall.

On Saturday afternoon, we had the absolute pleasure of fishing with 10-year old Paris, her dad John and his friend Ryan. All I have to say about this trip is WOW! We ran right back to the North Rip at around mid-tide and, as with the morning, we had instant action. Paris was on the first bass we hooked and with a little help from her dad and Capt. Steve, she landed it perfectly. I've seen grown men pass the rod off because the fish just exhaused their efforts. However, Paris stayed on the rod until her fish hit the deck. Fortunately for her dad and Ryan, she stepped aside and let them fight a few fish as well. The group wanted only two bass and after releasing the others, we decided to try fluking again. This time, we repositioned ourselves slightly but stayed at the North Rip and had pretty good action with the fluke. As with the morning, you definitely had to fish through the shorts. We did manage to catch a fluke with a brown belly. Seriously, this fish had no white side! Was a pretty cool site, though the fish was released immediately after snapping the photo.

We sailed on Saturday morning with Russ, Giancarlo and Jasper for a half day bass trip. We ran to the North Rip and had instant action. Unlike last week, although there were some bluefish mixed in, the majority of the fish we caught were bass. There weren't many slobs, but all of the fish caught made the cut. We made only a few passes to catch what we needed and spent the rest of the morning fluking. We didn't have as much time as I would have liked to run down the beach and I wasn't thrilled with the action we had behind the radar tower, so we ran back to the north side and found some decent fishing there.

On Saturday, we had the pleasure of again sailing with Cookie (aka Navy Diver), Doug, DP, Master Chief, Scott and Steven. This is our fifth annual trip with these guys and definitely one of the funniest so far! We left the dock at around 6:30 a.m. and ran to the North Rip. Although we brought bait, we started with the chutes and immediately had action with some nice-looking bass. The blue fish were absolutely ferocious and you had to fish your way through them, but it was worth it. At slack, we ran to the south side and fluked for about 2 hours. We had steady action again with lots of decent fish. Still kills me to throw back a 20" fish, but, fortunately, we had plenty that made the cut and ended up in the box. By early afternoon, after the tide got going, we went back for some more bass action and were lucky enough to fill the box during the remainder of the afternoon...all on chutes. We did try the bait at one point, but seemed to have better luck with the wire.

Montauk fishing has been great and I urge everyone to make a trip, whether you're looking for bass or fluke or are thinking about heading offshore. There's been some good action on the shark scene as well! If you do make your way east and are interested in fishing with us, please give me a call (646.335.7315) or shoot me an This email address is being protected from spambots. Today we sailed with Rob and Jeanie for a half day morning trip. We started at the North Rip, but weren't able to find any bass amidst all of the bluefish. I made a stop by the Pollack Rip and after a couple of passes, we had some nice bass on the boat. They wanted only three so it didn't take us long to fill the box for them. The bluefish were still mixed in but not as many. By 9:30, they were ready to head in, have their fish cleaned and spend the rest of the day at the beach! All in all, a great weekend with plenty of fish to go around.

We still have a couple of open dates in August, as well as in the Fall. If you are planning a trip out east and are thinking about fishing, please give me a call (646.335.7315). We'd love to get you out on the NOVEMBER RAIN.
