We sailed on July 9th with Freddy & company for a half day bass/fluke trip. We fished the morning, leaving the dock at 6:00 a.m. and started with the bass. Some of this gang fished with us last year and some were new to the boat.

We started at the Elbow and fished a few other nearby spots, for a mix of bass and blues. After landing what the group wanted to keep, we moved along to catch some fluke. We had a nice 5 ½ -pound fish almost immediately, with a few other decent fluke thereafter. Wasn’t a slaughter, but we had good action throughout the trip.

On July 8th, we had the pleasure of fishing with the Fowler family again. We haven't seen them in a while and this year's trip included an addition to the family - Abigail. A girl after my own heart....at 8 years of age, she was the last one to get her lines out of the water at the end of the trip. I'd like to see her running her own fishing boat one day!! She was joined by her mom and dad, as well as her brothers Patrick and William. We left the dock today at 9:30 a.m. and spent a few hours fluking. Unfortunately, not everyone was feeling Abigail's sentiments, so we cut the trip a little short to head back to land. The fog definitely does not help with sea sickness. Fortunately, aside from a few fluke, Abby managed to swing in a really nice-looking sea bass before we turned in for the day. I failed to snap any shots of the fluke, but take a look at the photos below to see Abby and her sea bass, as well as a few other nice pics of the family. Although I enjoy fishing with anyone who loves the sport as much as I do (offshore or inshore), I absolutely love having kids on the boat! Looking forward to fishing with the entire family again soon!

On July 3rd, we spent the morning with Andy, Kathleen, Mary Ann and Sam. We left the dock at around 6:00 a.m. and ran to the Elbow for some bass. We didn't see the immediate action I thought we would so I moved around a bit, only to return to the Elbow to finish out the day. Fortunately, we were able to load the boat with some fish and give the group plenty of meat to go home with. This was the first time this group has fished on the November Rain and we hope they enjoyed themselves as much as we did. Maybe we'll see them again next summer!

On the afternoon of Sat, 7/2, we fished with Allan, Belina, Belina's dad, and their two children. We left the dock in the early afternoon and went our for a few hours in search of striped bass. We trolled parachutes and had fish almost immediately. They weren't looking to come back to the dock with their limit as they wanted only enough for the evening's dinner, which we were very easily able to catch. This was our first time fishing with this group and they were great. If they are planning a trip back to Montauk from Colorado next summer, I certainly hope they will give us a call!

We had the pleasure of fishing with Pat Garvey and her family on Sunday, June 26th. Although a fisherwoman at heart, this was Pat's and the gang's first shark trip. We ran about 15 miles SW of the point and had steady action all day. Good water quality and lots of bait around the boat. We weren't able to find the whippy or mako I was hoping for, but Kowboy Kev (with 2 Ks!), Erin, Sean, Beth and Pat all took a few turns on the rod fighting a number of big blue dogs. I give props to all of them because I was getting tired just watching! Anyone who has ever sharked knows that blue sharks can grow to be quite large. We had one just hang by the boat for about an hour. He (I'm assuming it was a male since it was so stubborn!) chewed the foam off my chum pail (aka milk crate) and ate as much else as he could until we finally hand fed him a mackerel. After a quick fight, he let us be.

While I would have loved to hang a fish that day, I certainly won't complain as it was a great first shark trip anyway! We are hoping to get them out with us again!
