This morning, we sailed with Bobby Burns & company. This is Bobby's second trip fishing with us and the first for his 9-yr old son Robby, who, unfortunately, could not make it last year. We left the dock at around 6:00 a.m. and headed out with eels for the end of the flood. It was a slow start as the tide started to slack mid-morning, but the guys kept at it and we hammered them once the ebb started. Lots of bluefish out there, but the bass were plentiful as well!

Today we fished the annual FDNY Battalion Chief Larry Stack tournament. With the exception of Jimmy Congema, who makes the trip every year (except this one!!), we had our "normal" group of characters - Scott, Pappi, Eric and Marty, and were also joined by Mike and Dom, first-timers for the NOVEMBER RAIN. Like every year, we had a fantastic time with these guys. We started out with the eels and had a few bass early on. At slack, we switched over to the wire and were bombarded by the blue fish. Not one of our best trip in terms of catch, but still an absolutely awesome time. Lots of laughs, and fortunately, despite a lackluster showing of bass, we still sent the guys home with bags of meat. I didn't do a very good job of taking pics when we got back to the dock, but did manage to snap a couple!

Hats off to these guys and all of the other firefighters who were out east for this trip as well as to those who couldn't make it. You have our utmost respect and gratitude. Stay safe!!!

We left the dock this afternoon at around 1:30 with Galen and crew who were out in Montauk for his bachelor party. Having partied hard the night before, the guys wisely decided an afternoon trip would be best. It was a two-boat trip and we were fortunate enough to have the soon-to-be-hubby with us. We headed out with eels and stopped first at the Pollack Rip. We had some action, but not what I was hoping for. We moved around a couple of times and were successful in getting some nice-looking bass on the boat. The guys had initially only wanted to keep 1 fish, but decided ultimately that they'd each take one, for a total of four fish. They weren't greedy, which I commend, and we were back to the dock having a couple of drinks with them by 6:00 p.m. Galen is getting married on Saturday, October 8th. Best of luck to him!!

The boat sailed today with Colucci, Bucky, Pete, Johnny, Jerry and Harry. We left the dock a little late (someone overslept!) but had the eels in shortly after 7:00 a.m. Fished the tide and had consistent action all morning. We even managed a few decent fish during slack and then continued for a bit longer on the ebb. The guys were hoping for some bluefish, but as luck would have it, we didn't land one!

A great day, as always, fishing with this gang. Already counting down the days til next year!

Now's the time to head east. We've still got some open dates this fall. Give me a shout if you're interested in fishing aboard the NOVEMBER RAIN!

September 4, 2011 (Evening)

Within an hour of getting back to the dock, we were on our way out again for another trip with the Krupnicks. I must say, we didn't find the cows I thought we would, given the last few trips, but we did have action at the PR again. The gang didn't need another 8 bass given Saturday's catch, but we were able to find them what they wanted and send them home with more fillets! Another great trip with that gang!

September 4, 2011 (Day)

Today we went out with Kenny & Sue. Given our previous successes, we headed back over to the Pollack Rip and within a couple of hours into the tide, on eels, we had the action I was hoping for. It didn't last very long, but we had enough time to send them home with a feast! Was great watching both of them fight a few cows!

September 3, 2011 (PM)

In the evening, we headed right back out with Kevin Wishe & company. Again, a repeat group, the guys were ready to do what we always do...catch big bass. We fished the same spot as we did during the day, near the PR, and had fish weighing in at 30+ lbs all night. The guys didn't want all 12 fish, so we released a few after getting them to the boat. Great trip, as usual, and tons of laughs! Oddly, our first fish of the night was actually a very nice-looking sea bass. I can't recall the last time I hooked a sea bass on an eel, but it seemed to work this time!
