Jeff Sausele and crew sailed with us today for a shark trip. It was a lovely little 16-mile run in pea soup fog and a constant westerly roll. Couldn't have been more obnoxious conditions! Anyway, we had a little action throughout the day, though not as much as I would have preferred. Two blue sharks -- first around 125 pounds the second shortly thereafter around 250. In between the two, we had a rather large turtle stop by for a quick appearance. He was gone before we could snap a pic. At the end of the trip, as we were reeling up our baits, we hooked a small mako. Fun fight, but the little guy was probably not more than 60-70 pounds, so we released him at the boat. This was a first for these guys and I hope we'll see them again.

Ellen Ruby booked a twilight trip with us today for her son and grandsons. We left the dock at around 5:00 pm and headed out for those ever-elusive striped bass. Despite the chance of showers in the forecast, the evening was absolutely beautiful. And the bass fishing wasn't too shabby, either. We fished with eels and put together a nice catch. We kept a mix of bass and bluefish, with bass up to 35 lb. A great way to spend a Saturday evening!

Brian Castke and crew spent Saturday afternoon with us and it was another great trip. Granted the rain started as soon as the guys made their way down the dock. Fortunately, however, it had stopped by the time we cleared the inlet. The bass were again picking and choosing their baits, but we had a nice mix of both bass and bluefish throughout the trip. A great group of guys and tons of laughs! Hope to get them out again.

Sailed this morning with Vinny Costanza & crew. This trip was originally scheduled for last October. We were blown out twice and finally just decided to move it to 2015. The bass were anything but cooperative during the Flood. We managed a couple, along with a mix of bluefish, but definitely not what I was hoping for. Fortunately, the laughs were still plentiful with this great group of guys. Hope they all enjoy dinner. Vinny—see you in September!

We sailed with Alex Wellems today and spent the day putting fish in the box. Within a couple of hours, we had five nice-looking bass on deck. Next was some bottom fishing and we loaded up with sea bass. Lastly, we stopped for some fluke and added a few flatties to the catch. An absolute great day on the water!

Tote o' sea bass. It's great to finally be able to keep them!
