Alex Hecker & crew joined us again this morning for a bass/bottom trip. We made a couple of quick drifts with the eels. However, after a quiet start, we decided to switch tactics and try bottom fishing so that the kids could have a little action. Good call, as the bottom fishing was phenomenal, with some jumbo sea bass and porgies in the mix. We had initially planned to try for striped bass again before heading in, but the bottom fishing kept us busy right til the end of the trip. No complaints from the gang, as they went home with plenty of food for lunch and dinner. Hoping to get Alex back out this fall!

We spent today fishing with Dan Akeson, who had such a good time with us last year, he couldn’t help but try us again in 2015! We started off the day fishing with eels and catching a few bass right away. During slack tide, we decided to give the sea bass a try, easily catching our limit. Once the Flood tide got started, we headed back inshore for some more striped bass fishing and put a few more fish in the box. A great day with these guys.

We spent this afternoon with Steve and Tony, who were visiting from the west coast. We left the dock at around noon and had our limit of striped bass within two hours, with every fish over 25 pounds. Can’t really ask for better fishing than that! With the big fish out of the way, we spent the remainder of the trip bottom fishing and the guys pulled together a nice catch of porgies and sea bass. This was a first trip aboard the NOVEMBER RAIN for these guys and we hope we’ll see them again.

We had the pleasure of fishing with Marcel and Hans this morning, first-timers with the NOVEMBER RAIN. Decided to head out for striped bass this morning and had two 30-pound fish immediately. The gang decided that was all they wanted of the bass, so we switched over for fluke, which kept the rods bent for the remainder of the morning. Can’t really ask for more than that. A great morning.

Today we fished with the Anheuser-Busch crew for a 5-boat shark trip. We left the dock at around 6:00 am and steamed 15 miles SE. We set up in great water and had our first fight – with a 125 blue shark – within a couple of hours. Shortly thereafter, we had a few mahi swim up the slick. They didn’t stick around for long and it was quiet after that for a bit. By early afternoon, we had some more action, with two on at once, another blue shark – about 140 pounds – and a hammerhead (a first for the NOVEMBER RAIN) – which we estimated around 125 pounds. On the way home, we saw a couple of whales as well. Nothing to hang back at the dock, but still an eventful day on the water.

We had the pleasure of sailing with first-timers Matt Cuiffo and crew this morning. We fished the eels and had pretty good action throughout the trip. A few shorts caught in the mix, but we had no problem landing what the guys were really looking for and they went home with four bass in the 30-pound class. Not a bad way to spend the morning!
